  1. Read the text.

The Smiths

It is Sunday. It is nine o’clock in the morning. The Smiths are at home. Mr. Andrew Smith is a British diplomat. His wife Laura is a French teacher. Their son Michael is a student. Their daughter Alice is a schoolgirl.

The Smiths are sitting at the table. They are having breakfast. Mr. Smith and Michael are having bacon and eggs, toast, butter, jam and tea. Mrs. Smith and Alice are having orange juice, toast, jam and coffee. Mr. Smith is asking Michael and Alice about their studies. Alice and Michael are answering his questions.

After breakfast they are going to visit the Browns. Alice is going to show her new little dog to her friend Jill Brown. The Smiths and the Browns are going to have dinner.

It is evening. The Browns and the Smiths are sitting at the table. They are having dinner. They are discussing their plans on the week. After dinner they are having a rest. The adults are discussing different things. Michael is playing the piano. Alice and Jill are playing with Alice’s little dog.

Vocabulary:

Diplomat — дипломат

  1. Make up sentences with the vocabulary words.
  2. Answer the questions.

  1. Translate the word-combinations from the text:

Construction “To be going to + verb” – собираться сделать что-либо:

  • Are you going to watch TV tonight?
  • No, I’m not. I am going to write some letters to my friends.
  • What are you going to do after that?
  • Oh, I’m going to go to bed.

 

  1. Complete this dialogue:
  • Hello, Tim! What are you going to do this evening?
  • And what is your sister going to do?
  • Then what are you and your sister going to do on Sunday?

 

  1. Make up 5 sentences using “To be going to + verb”

 

  1. Write questions for the sentence:

Alice and Michael are answering his questions.

  1. Open the brackets using Present Continuous:

Peter and Ben (to play) chess now.
Nick is at home; he (to watch) TV.
Ben (to show) me his new picture now.
What is Alice (to do) now? She is (to write) a letter to her friend Kate.
The students (to read) the new text now.

  1. Translate these sentences into English:

Что ты делаешь? Я пишу статью для журнала (сейчас). Что ты собираешься делать сегодня вечером? Сегодня вечером я занят; я собираюсь проведать свою бабушку. Что вы делаете в данный момент? Мы переводим новый текст. Дети смотрят мультфильм (сейчас). Мои родители ужинают.  Папа пьет чай с печеньем, а мама пьет сок с бутербродом.

  1. Answer the questions using the example:
